Every day 2500 teenagers will try a painkiller for the first time; most of the time the drugs are stolen from their own parent’s medicine cabinet. Prescription drugs are the drug of choice for 12 and 13 year olds, and they are taking large doses to try to get high. Among all teens, prescription drugs are second only to marijuana as their choice for getting high. Prescription drugs for ADD / ADHD are often shared with friends, sold or stolen by teens looking to get high. Use of several ADD / ADHD drugs has been linked to future substance abuse, with an alarmingly high rate of addiction to cocaine and methamphetamines.

According to the CDC, “fever, malaise, myalgia, and other systemic symptoms can occur after vaccination with inactivated vaccine and most often affect persons who have had no previous exposure to the influenza virus antigens in the vaccine. These reactions begin 6 - 12 hours after vaccination and can persist for 1 - 2 days. Some individuals who get the shot still get the virus, but it's usually a milder case than it would have been without the inoculation; coincidental respiratory disease unrelated to influenza vaccination can occur after vaccination.” Did I read that right? If you get the vaccine, and you haven’t before been exposed to that strain of influenza, you will get the same symptoms (fever, fatigue, muscle aches and others) as getting the flu?

Almost half of all children will have at least one middle ear infection before they are 1-year old, and two-thirds of them will have had at least one such infection by age 3. Of these, almost half will have had repeated bouts. Two Main Types of Ear Infections In acute otitis media (AOM), parts of the ear are infected and swollen, with fluid and mucus trapped inside the ear. AOM can be extremely painful. In otitis media with effusion (fluid), or OME, fluid and mucus stay trapped in the ear after the infection is over. OME makes it harder for the ear to fight new infections. This constant buildup of fluid can also affect your child's hearing. Why Do Ear Infections Happen? In infants and children, the eustachian tubes, which connect the middle ear to the back of the throat and nose, are shorter and more horizontal than those of grown-ups. Babies and small children are particularly prone to otitis media because they get lots of colds. What are some of the symptoms? Parents should suspect an ear infection if their normally happy child becomes irritable, has a runny nose and fever, doesn’t want to eat or has trouble hearing. What will your doctor do?
